Jon Ruben admitted 17 offences at the courthouse on the end of the week

A man who contaminated sweets with tranquilliser and gave them to youngsters at a summer program in the area has admitted sexual offences against two young males who were nine and ten years old.

Jon Ruben was arrested after eight children and a grown-up became sick at Stathern Lodge in July.

The elderly man, from that region, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he stood at the judicial center on Friday.

However, he disputed one particular crime he was accused of, which was against a young boy.

Ruben was remanded in custody prior to a further hearing on late November.

'Treat game'

The legal representative, presenting evidence, described Ruben's offending to the judicial body.

She stated his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were staying at a summer program which he operated.

The defendant engaged in a "treat game" with the children, the prosecutor stated, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were preparing to sleep and tell them to consume candy "as fast as possible".

She stated to the judge the defendant had engaged in this activity with the young males "over an extended period", and children had previously become sick the following morning.

She said Ruben had been capable of justifying this for many years as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had suspicions in summer 2025.

The legal representative added: "Recently" his stepson had concerns about the situation, with valid cause.

"They chose" to examine in the individual's items."

The prosecutor said materials including lubricant, ointment and injection devices were discovered, and his stepson alerted the law enforcement about his worries.

She explained Ruben continued to play the "treat game" with six boys that night - July 26th - and they were all ill the next day.

"Authorities" had not arrived by that time," she continued.

The regulatory agency, the investigative body, previously told that it was examining law enforcement's management of the incident.

The prosecutor said the youngsters were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson called the authorities once more.

She explained the man then played the "candy game" in a room of five youngsters.
