'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Galbraith continues contest with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith grins broadly as he reminisces about the dramatic dying seconds of his team's epic comeback win against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. The game culminated with Galbraith temporarily wearing a supporter's spectacles after the on-field celebration.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith cracked the upright with a long-range effort from distance, and Cameron Burgess immediately converted the loose ball before racing off toward the East Stand to celebrate, with the crowd swarming the players.

Remarkable Recovery

The result capped an incredible comeback given Swansea had trailed 2-0 midway through the second half. Amid the euphoria, there was some collateral damage. The midfielder recalled, "There was a fan sort of calling out and Josh Key and I were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as players but we're individuals, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Manchester City Challenge

That win earned a next round game at home against Manchester City on Wednesday, a team Galbraith ran close at the same stage of the FA Cup with the London side in February. The athletic midfielder had a prime vantage point when Orient took the lead in stunning style, with the attacker's long-range effort from about 45 yards going in via the woodwork and the Stefan Ortega. Many argued that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've credited him for attempting the shot from that distance," stated Galbraith, who played in the middle before moving to right defensive wing after Orient changed tactics. That meant competing with Jack Grealish, with whom he traded tops, and the attacker was among the Manchester squad who complimented the way the underdogs attacked the game.

Guardiola's System

"Physically they are very good but even the simple things and basic skills, they can just perform consistently," Galbraith says. "It seems as if they always find their target and they are adept at manage and slow down a game. You can think you're holding your own and then without warning they will just thread a ball between defenders without you even seeing. You have to be alert at all times of the game. It takes a strong mentality and focus just to keep pace."

Swansea Move

The Welsh side pushed to sign Galbraith in January and secured his signature to bring him in in the summer in a significant move. He became a favorite as a crowd pleaser across multiple campaigns at Leyton Orient and has rapidly done the same in south Wales. At Orient he linked up again with his former manager, who previously gave Galbraith his debut prolonged spell in senior football on loan at Doncaster from Manchester United. Then came a loan at lower division Salford City, before he departed Old Trafford.

Development Path

"I was likely a bit naive going into professional soccer. I think numerous professionals would say development squad matches is very different. Sometimes it seems possession is exchanged without serious challenge. There's not many hard challenges. Once you start playing men's games you have to learn quickly."

Country Call-ups

His progress reflects that development for both domestically and internationally, shining for Northern Ireland, who could still reach the international competition next summer via the qualifying rounds and for whom he has been selected in the last several matches, including home and away encounters against the German national team. His former international manager, Galbraith's previous international manager, paid him the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he manipulates the ball and his knack for a game-changing assist.

Starting Out

This represents a remarkable path for the player from the local area in his hometown, just outside Northern Ireland's main city, who used to see his father, his father, also a engine room operator, play for a local club.

Red Devils Debut

The player's only game for the Red Devils came in Central Asia in 2019, a continental tournament trip to the Kazakh capital, where they competed on an plastic turf and the venue ceiling was closed owing to conditions of -15C. "It was a lengthy journey and it was cold out there," he says, chuckling. "The preceding week, myself and quite a few of the young lads trained together, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to accompany the senior squad and make an appearance at the end was incredible."

Leaving United

What was the challenge was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he signed from his boyhood team aged a teenager? "It was fairly simple, because I got to the stage where I understood I wouldn't break through at the senior squad. I'm hugely grateful for the years at the club but it got to the point where I believed I had to take a different path, drop down the leagues and play first-team games. Now I'm steadily progressing again."

Welsh Adaptation

It is the early part of the afternoon at the club's training ground but Galbraith has somewhere to be at late afternoon: a road rules assessment, another progress toward getting on the road. Until recently to his new neighborhood, the mid-twenties player was a constant rider in Swansea's so-called player transport, a minibus driven by team personnel, the transport team, which shuttles players to and from practice and games.

"I travel with Gonçalo Franco, another squad member, the midfielder – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has started driving. It's nice to interact with the guys but I'm aiming to be the next one to drive independently and on the road. Franco is known for his humor; he's always up to all sorts."

Fan Interactions

While playing for Leyton Orient, Galbraith would blend in with followers on public transport after starting his journey at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
